樹勢は非常に強く、枝は長く、多かれ少なかれ棘がある。その美しさは、3つの大きな鮮やかな色の苞葉と、その真ん中にあるほとんど目立たない白い花によってもたらされる。苞葉は暖かい季節の間、植物に残っていて、その後、緑色になり、茶色に変わり、乾燥する。
