Phoenix Dactylifera

Phoenix dactylifera, known as the date palm, common palm or Phoenix palm is a palm tree whose edible fruit is the date and probably originated in Southeast Asia. It is best planted from spring (once the frosty periods have passed) to the middle of summer.

The holes where the trees are planted must be wide enough and deep enough to be able to cope with the whole root system. The base of the trunk must be at the same height as it was before or slightly more buried, the soil around the root ball must be well patted down given abundant water immediately. The surface of the soil around the trunk must be covered with a good layer of hummus or mulching, making it impossible for weeds to sprout.

Resistance to cold: -2/-5º
